Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
Why supplier relationship management matters
Much of what an organisation delivers depends on what its suppliers provide. When relationships with key suppliers are governed, reviewed and developed on purpose, both sides share knowledge, raise risks early and find improvements that a contract alone would never produce, protecting value and reputation in the public and private sectors alike.
When relationships are left to chance, they drift: every supplier is treated the same, reviews happen only after something fails, stakeholders send mixed messages and nobody plans an exit until it is urgent. SRM gives procurement, contract and supply chain professionals a structured approach to the whole relationship lifecycle, recognised through WorldCC certification.
What you will be able to do
- Explain the purpose and goals of SRM and the key SRM roles within the organisation
- Match the type and level of each supplier relationship to that supplier's importance and value
- Plan the rollout of an SRM programme, engaging internal stakeholders and setting up communication routines
- Run governance meetings and performance reviews with key suppliers
- Use supplier knowledge and benchmarking to find value, manage supplier risk and plan exit strategies
- Align SRM with each stage of the contract lifecycle so contract terms support collaboration
