Supply Chain Certifications: Which One Fits Your Career?
CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, CSCL, CSCA or CSCM? Compare the main supply chain certifications by focus, level and exam, and find the one that fits your role.
Many supply chain roles in Egypt and the Gulf ask for a recognised certification. The hard part is choosing one. CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, CSCL, CSCA, CSCM: each comes from a different body and answers a different career question. This guide from Transights compares the main supply chain certifications by focus, level and exam, so you can pick the one that fits the job you do now, or the job you want next.
The short answer
- Planning, inventory or production planning? Start with CPIM.
- Moving into an end-to-end supply chain role? Look at CSCP.
- Logistics, warehousing or transport? Choose CLTD.
- Leading end-to-end supply chain operations or transformation? Look at CSCL.
- New to supply chain, or want your team to share one language? Start with CSCA.
- Managing a supply chain function? Consider CSCM.
- Procurement, buying and contracts? That is the CIPS route. See our guide to CIPS levels.

The ASCM certifications: CPIM, CSCP and CLTD
ASCM, the Association for Supply Chain Management (formerly APICS), offers three certifications. All three share one exam format: 150 questions (130 scored and 20 unscored pretest questions) in 3.5 hours, with a pass at 300 or above on a 200 to 350 scale. You book the exam with ASCM and sit it at a Pearson VUE test centre or online.
- CPIM goes deep into planning: S&OP, demand, internal and external supply, inventory, detailed schedules and distribution. The current version, CPIM 9.0, has nine modules.
- CSCP goes wide: it follows the whole chain from suppliers to customers, including global networks, sourcing, logistics, risk and sustainability.
- CLTD covers the physical side: logistics strategy, warehousing, transportation, global logistics, risk, network design and digital transformation.

The VCARE Academy certification: CSCL
CSCL (Certified Supply Chain Leader) is awarded by VCARE Academy, which describes it as "the world's first authentic, practice-oriented certification in end-to-end supply chain operations". Its five modules move from supply chain strategy, inventory and demand planning, through sourcing and manufacturing planning, to warehousing and logistics, resilience and continuous improvement, and finish with DDMRP, the digital supply chain and value chain management. The final exam has 100 multiple-choice questions in 180 minutes, taken online with a proctor.
The ISCEA certifications: CSCA and CSCM
The International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA) offers a ladder from analyst to manager.
- CSCA (Certified Supply Chain Analyst) is the entry level. It gives you, or a whole team, a shared supply chain language: the key terms, how planning and execution connect, and how operational measures drive financial results. The exam has 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, with a 70% pass mark.
- CSCM (Certified Supply Chain Manager) is the manager level. It combines supply chain theory with current practice: network design, sourcing, forecasting, MRP and DDMRP, leadership, Theory of Constraints, Lean Six Sigma and operational accounting. The exam has 200 multiple-choice questions in 240 minutes, with a 70% pass mark.
Both ISCEA exams are taken online with a proctor, and one free retake is included.
How to choose: four questions
- What do you do every day? Pick the certification that matches your daily work. Planners gain most from CPIM, logistics teams from CLTD, buyers from CIPS.
- Where do you want to be in three years? If you are aiming for an end-to-end or management role, look at CSCP, CSCL or CSCM.
- How much experience do you have? CSCA suits people early in their career. CSCL and CSCM assume you already manage people or processes.
- How do you prefer to learn and be tested? The ASCM exams are taken through Pearson VUE. The VCARE and ISCEA exams are taken online with a proctor at the end of the programme.
